NEWBIES!

For the newbies who have never scrapbooked before. Here are some basic supplies you will need & some tips on getting started!!

-Cutting Mat
-Paper Trimmer
-Scissors
-Acid Free Adhesive
-Pen
-Clear Ruler
-Album (post, 3-ring, etc)
-Paper
-Stickers/Embellishments
-Magazines for some scraplifting! It's not Illegal!! Best way for some quick ideas and a jumpstart!
I recommend Scrapbook Etc. by Better Homes & Gardens & Creating Keepsakes. You can find
these wherever magazines are sold. And get a subscription if you can!

Deciding where to start is the hardest part. There is no right or wrong way! Just pick out pictures that make you happy, even if it wasn't the last ones you took or the first ones. Just whatever you feel like scrapping. I do not scrap in any order. I have years to pick through! I jump from year to year on what I scrap. It's what mood I'm in and what I feel like doing. It will keep you going instead of getting stuck trying to stay in chronological order.
A very important tip that I have been trying to do cause It's very hard for me, is to scrap pages that tell a story! Not just occasions or holidays.
Have a special story to tell, or did your daughter say something so cute that you want to remember forever? Tell your story with a type of supporting photo, or no photo at all!

Ok, now that you have an idea on where you want to start, here are some suggestions on what to do next.

  • Pick out your pictures (ex: Birthday party, Pool, beach trip, holiday, etc). Use that scrapbook magazine for some inspiration!!

  • Take a trip to your local scrapbook store. Mine would be hobby Lobby and especially with a 40% off coupon or when there's a good sale!! Check their website at www.hobbylobby.com for the sales add and print a coupon if one is available.

  • With pictures in hand picking out a kit that includes papers, stickers, & some embellishments that compliment your photos may be the best way to go for your first page. It will keep you from getting overwhelmed by all the products that are available. Also the kits usually include some examples of pages using the items included in the kit. Or you can go totally independant and pick out individual items. Also, Alphabet stickers never hurt!!

Now that you have some supplies and ready to start, come to Friday Night Crops for some help or go to http://www.scrapbooksetc.com/start_scrapbooking/index.html
for a jump start before the crop!

First Crop!!

Friday Night Crops is a Scrapbook Life Group at Word Alive International Outreach in Oxford, AL.

We will be meeting the LAST Fridays of every Month beginning August 29th at 6pm at Word Alive. For Directions to the church Click here!
We will be meeting in the Conference room located behind Grand Central in the Main Building.
~Park in the Parking Lot at Grand Central. Enter at the Office entrance on the Back (what faces the rd) through the set of Double doors on the right. There will be signs ~
If you have any questions on the location of the conference room, please ask!
Email me at fridaynightcrops@yahoo.com

I am super excited about this group and have lots of ideas & plans for it! Here are some of the things I want us to do!
  • Make 'n takes
  • Learn/Teach New Techniques
  • Semi-Annual Scrapbook Retreats at Simply Scrappin Retreats in Springville, AL!
  • Monthly Scrapbook Challenges
  • Supply Swaps/Scrapbook Yardsale
  • Blog Poll
  • Scrapbook Shopping Outings!
Our first crop you can definitely expect some crop time & for us to get to know each other! I do not have any make 'n takes planned for our first crop so I can get an idea on how many scrappers we are going to have attend.

WHAT TO BRING TO THE CROP:
  • In order to maximize your cropping time I suggest pre-planning your pages/projects. The large Ziploc bags work great for this...place the photos, paper, embellishments, stickers, and journaling ideas together for each layout together. I use the 12x12 Accordian paper storage box to hold my pre-planned pages & materials.
  • Be sure to bring your favorite tools like your paper trimmer, scissors, adhesive and all other basic supplies.
COMMUNITY TOOLS AVAILABLE FOR YOUR USE:
  • Cricut Expression - Cartridges available: Accent Essentials, Happily Ever After, Makin' the Grade, Plantin SchoolBook, Alphalicious. If you have other cartridges and would like to share with the group, please bring them. ;)
  • Clear Stamp Collection & some ink pads
  • Decorative Scissors
  • Punches
  • Magazines for the inspirational blocks
If you are interested, please send me an email at fridaynightcrops@yahoo.com so I can keep you up to date on all happenings! I am also open to any ideas that anyone would like to share!!
